Several double-blind scientific studies have been carried out that have certified the efficacy of devil's claw extract as a de-inflammatory agent with remarkable activity to alleviate different rheumatic conditions, muscular and neuralgic injuries and chronic pain.
In this sense, it has been shown that it can show similar efficacy to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), being generally free of the adverse effects associated with them.
Among the main applications and benefits of the devil's claw, it is worth highlighting:
• Reduces inflammation and relieves pain in chronic and specific rheumatic processes, such as osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
• Relieves muscle tension and reduces inflammation of muscles, tendons and bursae - bursae between tendons and muscles - in bursitis, acute tendonitis, epicondylitis or inflammation and pain of the epicondyle (tennis elbow), muscle spasms, muscle overload and in deferred myalgia, popularly known as laces. It is therefore a natural ally of the first order for athletes, hikers, walkers or gymnasts, especially exposed to this type of injury.
• Relieves pain and reduces inflammation caused by trauma, improper posture and injuries or accidents due to bad falls, bumps and bruises.
• Soothes low back pain, neck pain and muscle spasms. The devil's claw is also revealed as a magnificent ally for women in climacteric, to alleviate some of their symptoms, and for young women, affected by painful periods, pain in the lower back, migraine, etc.
• It can be a good support to relieve pain, often intense, caused by excess uric acid or gout.
• Combined with suitable plants, the devil's claw is positioned as an excellent remedy to calm headaches, triggered by overexertion, eye fatigue and muscle tension.
• It acts as a very powerful diuretic, indicated in case of fluid retention, presence of edema and to correct excess urea and uric acid in the blood.
• Due to its bitter plant condition, devil's claw promotes the secretion of gastric juices and can stimulate the appetite. It is indicated, for this reason, to weakened people, lack of appetite, in situations of anemia and convalescence.
• Combined with other plants that reinforce its action, devil's claw helps control blood sugar levels and has been recommended as support therapy for people with diabetes.
• It is a digestive tonic that is recommended to combat gastrointestinal spasms, to relieve dyspepsia or indigestion and heavy digestion.
• Devil's claw is used in the natural treatment of duodenal or small bowel diverticulosis, a condition that increases with age.
• It is attributed a certain lipid-lowering effect, with the ability to lower the levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood. There is no scientific consensus on this point and further evidence of its efficacy would be required.
