VITIS VINIFERA LEAF EXTRACT

« Back to Glossary Index

The extract of red vine, obtained from the leaves, is used in cosmetics and is incorporated in the formulas as an active ingredient in those products destined to combat the factors that cause premature aging of the skin. This is possible thanks to the free radical scavenging and antioxidant action provided by the abundance of polyphenols. On the skin, grapevine extract improves irritation, redness and closes large pores.
In recent decades, researchers have studied the properties of polyphenols in grapes. They are particularly interested in RESVERATROL, concentrated especially in the skin of fruits and oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs).
In natural medicine, the leaves, as well as the fruits and seeds of the red vine are used. To obtain the grapevine extract, the leaves are used, which are well known for their circulatory properties. These contain vasoprotective substances that help combat venous insufficiency and skin capillary fragility that act as an effective venous tonic. Among other properties we can say that the red vine is antispasmodic, hypnotic and sedative. It is used in anxiety, nervous states and insomnia. On the other hand, the red vine, thanks to the proanthocyanosides in its leaves, allows anti-free radical action and a stabilization of the collagen present in the membranes of the blood vessels.
In the vine leaves we find: polyphenols, organic acids (tartaric, malic, oxalic, fumaric, citric acids), phenolic acids (hydroxybenzoic and p-fumaric acids) and other active principles: esters of cinnamic acid and tartaric acid, vitamin b and c, folic acid, carotenoids, proteins and mineral salts.
